Forrester Chief on What Not to Cut in a Downturn

Forecasts for technology spending are pretty much meaningless these days. No one knows yet when the economy will reach bottom, or at what level. Until the economy and the markets show signs of stabilizing, industry forecasts — tech spending, holiday shopping, car sales — are all suspect.

But in an interview last week, George Colony, founder and chief executive of Forrester Research, shared some thoughts on why this tech sector downturn will be different from the 2001-3 slide, which he termed a “tech depression.”
